Distinctive Design / Build / Remodel is co-owned by General Contractor, Vince Busby, and Design Coordinator, Erin Dougherty. This award-winning team has won praise locally and nationally for their thoughtful designs and carefully executed construction projects. They’ve been awarded the prestigious CotY (Contractor of the Year) award by NARI (National Association of the Remodeling Industry) and the Chrysalis award – which celebrates the finest remodeling projects in America. But more important than any award – they have many clients who are on their third, fourth and even fifth remodeling projects with the company.
Vince Busby – General Contractor, Certified Remodeler
Vince has been in the construction business for more than 30 years. He began his career working with his father building apartment complexes in New Mexico and Florida. During that time, Vince got hands-on experience in all areas of residential construction as well as construction management. His attention to detail – especially the finishing stage – means you can expect a flawless finish.
In 1997, Vince opened his own remodeling business in Charlotte, NC. The business thrived thanks to referrals and repeat clients – people who wouldn’t have any other builder work on their homes. Vince’s construction knowledge is so well respected that he’s been tapped to testify as an expert witness by attorneys who specialize in construction litigation.
Vince is one of only a handful of Certified Remodelers in the Charlotte-Metro area and the only Certified Remodeler working on Kiawah Island, SC. Only full-time, professional remodeling contractors are eligible for certification by the National Association of the Remodeling Industry. The NARI testing and screening process is rigorous to ensure that the work of Certified Remodelers is the best in the industry.
In 2013, Vince joined forces with designer, Erin Dougherty, and together they formed Distinctive Design / Build / Remodel which is now the Carolinas’ trusted source for luxury remodeling and custom homes.
Erin Dougherty – Design Coordinator
Erin is co-owner and principal designer of Distinctive Design / Build / Remodel. She will be involved with your remodel or custom home project from the very beginning. Erin is able to remove much of the stress clients feel during a construction project by managing hundreds of details and decisions that need to be made.
As a former television producer, she is skilled at communication and she makes sure all the players involved in the building process - from clients to sub-contractors to trade partners -understand what needs to happen and when it needs to happen to keep projects on schedule and on budget.
Erin is respected by the sub-contractors and trades people who work for her because she is knowledgeable and can anticipate what they need to get their jobs done. Her ability to work with architects, engineers, carpenters, electricians, plumbers and other trades as well as inspectors ensures that your project will be well designed and built to last.
Clients say Erin has an intuitive sense of what they want to achieve even if they aren’t exactly sure how to go about getting it. She really listens to and cares about her clients’ needs and dreams for their homes and helps them navigate the multitude of options while keeping an eye on the bottom line. She is creative and always ready with helpful advice or solutions but she never imposes her taste on her clients. She will steer you away from major mistakes but, in the end, she wants it to feel like your home.
We are the first ones to admit that Distinctive Design / Build / Remodel won't always be the fastest or the cheapest. And we certainly never promise you something we can't deliver. What we do promise is fanatical attention to detail, extraordinary responsiveness to your needs, unparalleled communication and an absolutely STUNNING remodel or custom home that you will love.
Fix It & Finish It Testimonial
While I am a former television producer and was excited to have our company selected as the Design / Build team for an episode of Fix It & Finish It – my business partner and our General Contractor, Vince Busby, was not so sure. But once he heard about the family we would be helping, all the reluctance he had about being “on TV” melted away. Shawn and Angie are both soldiers who serve our country and it was a real honor to help this young couple tame the jungle of baby equipment that had sprouted up in their family room since they had twins several months ago.
It was an absolute pleasure spending the day working with Antonio and his crew. Antonio kicked off the early morning meeting in a parking lot a few miles from Shawn and Angie’s home with an inspirational prayer. Our last-minute jitters gave way to anticipation as we headed over to surprise the young couple. And then the non-stop action began as our guys worked tirelessly to transform the family room from a mish-mash of furnishings and baby gear to a sleek and stylish space for adults and children to enjoy.
Antonio was hands-on during the entire process – helping rip out the carpet, paint the walls, and move in the new furniture. Vince and Antonio joked that they should make a whole episode about installing the new ceiling light which took longer than expected because of existing wiring that had to be re-worked. Antonio is certainly not a Hollywood “prima-donna” – just a down-to-earth guy who genuinely seems to enjoy his job and the opportunity to change lives by improving homes.
Everyone on the television crew was professional and went out of their way to make us feel comfortable during the long day of shooting. The director, Collin, was patient and encouraging when we flubbed our on-camera interviews and asked for a mulligan. Our segment producer, Hannah, was incredibly organized and a real ray of sunshine. At the end of the day, we were thrilled to be part of such a great show.
